Android: Thermal camera & infrared photos


User guide

Infrared camera option is a subject of a separate licence.

Open Settings → select “Photo”.

Find and toggle “Enable thermal camera” option. An orange circled camera icon will appear near the blue camera icon which means that infrared photos can now be taken using the FLIR ONE camera.

Go to Attachments of the needed Location / Asset / Checklist Item → press the orange circled camera icon to enter thermal camera mode.

Follow the on-screen instructions:

  • Make sure your FLIR ONE is charged.

  • Insert the FLIR ONE in the USB port on your phone.

  • Adjust the wheel on the FLIR ONE so it fits securely to your phone.

  • Turn on your FLIR ONE device and wait until the LED begins blinking green. This may take up to 20 seconds.

Press the orange circled camera icon to take a thermal photo of a Location / Asset / Checklist Item.

Use the controls at the bottom of the screen to adjust thermal image capturing.

Preview images in the infrared camera mode can not be rotated.

When an infrared photo is downloaded, you receive a .thermal file that contains several versions of the infrared picture and metadata information about it. In order to open the .thermal file, rename it to .zip and then unarchive it.

MSX (Multi-Spectral Dynamic Imaging)

MSX overlays thermal images with visible light images. It enhances details in the thermal image by combining information from both cameras, making it easier to identify hot spots and interpret data.

Activating this mode allows you to view a clearer image that highlights important thermal features while retaining context from the visible spectrum.

NUC (Non-Uniformity Correction)

NUC is a calibration process that corrects variations in sensor output due to temperature differences and sensor imperfections.

This button recalibrates the thermal sensor, ensuring accurate temperature readings and consistent image quality. It’s typically performed automatically but can be triggered manually when needed.

T (Temperature)

The temperature measurement function allows you to see the specific temperature of objects within the thermal image.

Pressing this button displays temperature readings for specific areas, helping you identify temperature differences and anomalies effectively.

Hottest

This feature automatically identifies and displays the hottest point in the thermal image.

Activating this button highlights the area with the highest temperature, making it easier to spot potential issues, such as overheating components or heat leaks.

Color Palettes

FLIR ONE cameras often come with various colour palettes (like Iron, Rainbow, etc. ) that represent temperature ranges visually.

You can cycle through different palettes to find the one that best highlights the thermal details you’re interested in.
